Retiring Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) says that members of Congress should have a pay raise.
“I think the American people should know that the members of Congress are underpaid. I understand that it’s widely felt that they underperform, but the fact is that this is the board of directors for the largest economic entity in the world.”
This after the 2015 appropriations bill for Congress includes another pay freeze at $174,000.00 per year. This does not include their extra pay for serving on committees—chairmen earn even more.
If, indeed, members of Congress are the ‘Board of Directors’ of the largest economic entity in the world, and if they were subject to the same legal and fiduciary rules as private corporations’ boards of directors, they would be serving 5-15 years in the Federal prison at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, or wherever Bernie Madoff is.
