I am from Corsicana, Texas. My folks are from Texas. My mother’s Grandfather was a Texas Ranger. I graduated from Corsicana High School in 1968. In November of 1968 I enlisted in The United States Army. In May of 1969 I was sent to Viet Nam and assigned to The First Infantry Division. My MOS is 11B Light Weapons Infantryman. I have a Combat Infantryman’s Badge and some other medals I got when I was there. I spent 2 years 9 months active duty. I have lived in the Four Corners area since 1980. I have been in Yellow Jacket since 1999.
In March of 2021 I was asked by some folks to consider running for Sheriff. I asked why me. I am not a politician and have never been in Law Enforcement. They answered because you believe in God and you support The United States Constitution. I have already sworn an oath “to support and defend the Constitution of The United States against all enemies foreign and domestic”. I believe right now we have more domestic enemies than foreign. The Constitution is the law of the land. There are state and federal laws that are unconstitutional. Such as the red flag law. Such as the Patriot Act. Infringements on our rights. We need to start on the local level to push back and make a stand.
I would like to see Law Enforcement (not just the Sheriff’s Department) more in touch with the people. When I was asked to consider running for Sheriff I said I would pray about it and think about it. From March of 2021 to May of 2022 while I was thinking about it, I had a lot of people talk to me and ask me questions on where I stand on different things and encouraged me to go for it. Nobody in any Law Enforcement has bothered to ask me anything.
I have never been in politics, I’m not a politician. I have never been in Law Enforcement, I’m not a cop. I do not think like a cop, I think like the people because I am one of the people. I know what the people want because they tell me and I am one of them. Experience! If experience is what you want then you are going to get 4 more years of what you have had. Quote “crime is getting worse, criminals are getting bolder, and drugs are getting worse” I will let you guess who said that. Thank You, Odis Sikes
